Armenian (האיוטסלזו) is an Indo-European language spoken by Armenians in the Republic of Armenia, Nagorno-Karabakh and the Armenian minorities throughout the world, and during its history was an important language of Asia Minor. It consists of two official dialects, the western and the eastern, and is written in the Armenian alphabet invented by Saint Mesrop in the 5th BC. century. Armenian literature has a long history and flourished in the kingdom of Cilicia during its existence.
Additionally, researchers have noted that Armenian shares with Greek a higher percentage of common words of Indo-European origin than with any other language. They also share many common grammatical features and peculiarities, which has led to the belief that they have a common ancestor within Indo-European homolingualism. Therefore, Armenian along with Iranian languages and Greek were classified into a broader linguistic subgroup of the Proto-Indo-European language.
