Azerbaijan, or officially the Republic of Azerbaijan, is a country in the Caucasus region with a population of about 10 million. The official language of Azerbaijan is Azeri or Azerbaijani, a Turkish-based language that is often spoken in dialect form in many areas of Iran.
The Azeri language has a rich history, while the variety of alphabets used is characteristic. According to official sources, before 1929 the alphabet in which the Azerbaijani language was written was Persian Arabic, which is still used today in Iran and South Azerbaijan.
Additionally, an interesting detail about the Persian Arabic script is that it has no standardized orthography. From 1929 onwards, the Latin alphabet was used in various forms, and changes were made, until the Latin alphabet known to us today was finalized.
However, it is worth noting that the use of the Cyrillic script is particularly widespread even today, especially in the northern part of the country.
