The translation agency “Alpha Ermis” is an international company, where the Russian language and culture occupy a special, prominent place in our professional activities. Greece and Russia are not just two countries bound together by close cooperation. For a thousand years, the two peoples have been linked by cultural and religious relations, the value of which is unparalleled and timeless.

The development of the Russian literary language is due to the influence of the Byzantine Empire. Thanks to the work of Saints Cyril and Methodius, who, as is known, were children of our city, the Slavs acquired their own alphabet, which the Russians use to this day, unlike some Slavic peoples who preferred the Latin script. Greek intellectual literature contributed to the formation of Russian literature, which continues to be rich and original even today, when more and more authors turn to writing books for easy and superficial reading.

The Russian language is much more closely related to Greek than we think. The Russians borrowed from the Greeks not only ecclesiastical vocabulary and scientific terms, but also the basic principles of morphology, grammatical and syntactic structures, and finally many everyday words. However, the Slavs also enriched the Greek language on many levels, from Northern Greek toponyms to the significant influence of Russian literature, which was admired by Odysseas Elytis, Yiannis Ritsos, Giorgos Seferis and many other great scholars and intellectuals of the time.

These relationships make us responsible to undertake Russian translations with respect, love, but above all dedication. Who knows, maybe our work is a thread in the handmade fabric of timeless tradition and can strengthen the bonds of friendship between the two countries. Our experts, many of whom know not only the Modern Greek and Russian languages, but also ancient Greek and Old Slavic, have prepared many important scientific translations, among which were translations of historical sources. Another aspect of our activity that makes us proud is our cooperation with the Church. For many years now, our translators have been undertaking the most specialized translations on behalf of the monasteries of Mount Athos, the Metropolises and the ecclesiastical hierarchs of both countries.
